In this redesign, Betsy shows the client’s barren backyard before and after it was transformed into this lush garden. She was tasked with improving drainage, adding nutrients back into the soil, and hiding the highway below their ocean-view. In order to do this, she directed the water away from the house by digging a dry stream bed through the center of the garden. The soil was used to build mounds and hide the high-way from view. A fountain was installed to diffuse the freeway sound.

Seeded concrete patios were poured to create separate spaces for a grill and bar, dining table, fire pit lounge area and hot tub. Level decomposed granite paths allow the homeowner and visitor to safely navigate the landscape. In addition to a beautiful variety of low water shrubs and succulents, a 7 citrus and stone fruit trees were planted along side 4 vegetable garden boxes.
